Is this your first time in the San Francisco Bay Area?  First time at a U.S. university?  What prompted you to participate in the UC Berkeley IELE program?  What recommendations would you have for future participants?  What class did you find most interesting and what excursion or event was most memorable?  Please share your thoughts and first impressions. You can also use this Forum to connect with Polonia in the San Francisco Bay Area and stay in touch with us!

In 2011, the Education Committee of the San Francisco-Kraków Sister Cities Association initiated a partnership between the Jagiellonian University Faculty of Law and the UC Berkeley Boalt School of Law. This August 6-17, a dozen Polish law students and young lawyers from Kraków and Warsaw are participating in UCB's International Executive and Legal Education (IELE) Program, enrolled in the Certificate in American Law Summer Institute, with partial scholarships supported by the Koret Foundation, Jagiellonian University, UC-Berkeley and others. The Education Committee of the San Francisco-Kraków Sister Cities Association is delighted to welcome our visitors from Poland!

Invitation from Mary Kay Stuvland, Artistic Director & Choreographer, Łowiczanie Polish Folk Ensemble

AN INVITATION FOR A WALKING TOUR OF BERKELEY’S ELMWOOD DISTRICT AND THE UC BERKELEY CAMPUS

WITAMY to all of our newly-arrived visitors from Kraków!  I am a Board Member of the SF-Kraków Sister Cities Association, and I’m organizing a walking tour of my beloved Elmwood neighborhood for any who would like to join.  It will take about 1 and a quarter hours, and then everyone is invited to rest and enjoy a hosted cocktail (or non-alcoholic beverage) in a favorite local Elmwood “watering hole."

We’ll meet at 5pm and finish at the restaurant at 6:15pm.  The possible dates are next Mon, Wed or Thurs, August 13, 15 or 16; I’ll wait to hear which date works best for most people.

The walk will be brisk, so please wear appropriate shoes, and also it will be relatively easy and lovely.  I’ll show you some of our gracious, tree-lined residential streets and some hiking starting points for future efforts (some may wish to know of these for your own later walks or jogging) and also some of the UC Berkeley campus high points:  “Faculty Glade,” Strawberry Creek, the Campanile, the main library, Sproul Plaza, our famous dog fountain, etc.

Please respond to me directly and I’ll send you more information regarding the meet-up point, and answer any questions that you may have.

    Pozdrawiam,

    Mary Kay Stuvland
